Wills before 1858 were proved in Ecclesiastical Courts. The principal ones for Wiltshire  were the Archdeaconry of  Sarum,  the Archdeaconry of Wiltshire, the Archdeaconry of Winchester and the Diocese of Gloucester.

 The Superior Court was the PCC. Prerogative Court of Canterbury (See England General).
