CENSUS

The AIGS Library holds a permanent collection of original Scottish Census records, thanks to the generosity of it's members who continue to support the Institute's Census Appeal. This collection is part of the largest collection of United Kingdom census material in Australia and is continually growing.

1841  CENSUS

The original census records are available for most Counties.
The Catalogue for each County has details of the films or fiche held for that area.

1851  CENSUS

The original census records are available for most Counties.
The Catalogue for each County has details of the films or fiche held for that area.

1861  CENSUS

The original census records are available for many or all areas of many Counties and the library now holds a collection of more than half of the available films.
The Catalogue for each County has details of the films or fiche held for that area.

1871  CENSUS

The original census records are available for most areas.

1881  CENSUS

Transcription project undertaken by the Family History Societies of Scotland with the LDS Church. 
This Census project is now available for all Counties on microfiche.

Each County then has a set of fiche consisting of a Surname Index, Birth Index,
Census Place Index, As Enumerated, Misc. Notes, Ships, Institutions. 
Access by using the Surname Index. 
Use the first of the 4 numbers at the end of the row to identify the correct 'As Enumerated' fiche.
