A blossoming area of Family History Interest, as demonstrated by the commencement of Noel Clarke’s Naval & Military Interest Group, is that of Australia’s military commitment.

Robin Droogleever has most competently researched the story of Victorian 3rd and 4th Contingents sent to war in South Africa in 1900.  His research covers Western Australians, New South Welshmen, Queenslanders, South Australians, Tasmanians, New Zealanders and Imperial Yoemanry.

‘That Ragged Mob’ includes a detailed biographical roll on each man who served as well as relevant references to Victorian nurses.

Order Forms for the purchase of this 720 page book are available from the AIGS library or contact Robin Droogleever, P.O. Box 42, Bulleen, Victoria 3150.

Another recent release from Footprint Books is titled ‘Your Family Tree Online’ by Graeme Davis.  It is a step-by-step guide to the growing number of records available for research from the comfort of your own computer.

This 153 page book covers computer research for the beginner as well as including a few new sites for those who thought that family history research was a stagnant thing.  Your Family Tree Online is available in Australia and New Zealand either through a local bookshop or direct from Footprint Books www.footprint.com.au or check the library shelves for its location.

Ann Irwin found and bought a photograph whist in an antique shop in Healesville Victoria.  It is inscribed on the back ‘the Abbott family’.  She would like to see it returned to someone with family connections.  If you are interested it will be held by the Editor for the next six  months.

Members attention is drawn to a typo appearing in the advertising material for Parliamentary Papers as it appeared in the December 2009 magazine.  Please note that the correct email address for ordering is bookshop@aigs.org.au
