Our meetings are informal and friendly. At
some meetings we discuss each other's problems and share new research
findings, at others we arrange speakers on related topics that the
group is interested in. On other occasions our own members share their
expertise on a certain topic, or talk about interesting ancestors.
Each time we get together members have an opportunity to participate
or you can just sit back and listen.
You may well ask why this group is combined, but from experience,
we have discovered that most people who have ancestors in one area
often find they have an ancestor or two who travelled over the sea from
Scotland to Ireland and vice versa.
Beginners are welcome, and you will soon find everyone does
their best to assist each other. We might not have all the answers,
but we do try to point people in the right direction. Even the most
seasoned researchers can be helped by a new approach from another member.
In addition, the Group raises funds towards enlarging the
library collection of Scottish and Irish material and recommends specific
library purchases for our areas of interest.
We also keep in touch with members through monthly newsletters.
This is a boon to those who live in outlying areas, and those who
cannot attend all meetings, as it is a summary of the information discussed
during each meeting.
So, if you have any Irish or Scottish ancestry, please come
along and join the Group, we would be only too happy to welcome you.
