The Council of the Institute consists of 15 Councillors who are elected annually. The incoming Council takes office at the conclusion of the Annual General Meeting which is usually held in April of each year.

All Council positions are Honorary.

Nominations for Council positions are advertised in the December edition of the Institute magazine The Genealogist, their duties being defined at that time.

The following Councillors have taken Office at the conclusion of the A.G.M. dated 18th April 2007 until the A.G.M. of 2008.
