Aims of the Institute


We aim to:

  • Promote and encourage the study of genealogy, heraldry, family history and allied subjects throughout Australia
  • Maintain a reference and research library relating to genealogy, family history, heraldry and allied subjects, and an archive devoted to the history of Australian families and related material
  • Continually expand the collection so that we can provide the maximum of resources
  • Cater for remote members
  • Create indexes of monumental inscriptions, parish registers and other genealogical source materials for posterity
  • Provide friendly and comfortable facilities for Members to carry out their research
  • Publish booklets, CDs, transcripts and indexes
  • Provide educational experiences for beginning and advanced researchers
  • Give awards for excellence in the production of family histories
